Dr. Dory Green’s Impact: Practice-Based Research

Discover how Dr. Green’s involvement with the National Dental PBRN is bridging the gap between research and clinical practice, enhancing patient care and professional growth in dentistry.

Dr. Dory Green

The National Dental Practice-Based Research Network (National Dental PBRN) is proud to feature Dr. Dory Green, DMD, FAGD, a dedicated member whose research efforts are shaping the future of dental care. Through her involvement with the National Dental PBRN, South Atlantic Region, Dr. Green has participated in pivotal studies that bridge the gap between dental research and clinical practice.

Dr. Green’s journey began at the University of Miami, where she initially pursued a pre-med track while nurturing her passion for technical theater. After shadowing a dentist during her senior year, she discovered her calling in dentistry. She holds degrees in microbiology and technical theater from the University of Miami and earned her doctorate from Temple University. Currently practicing in Fort Lauderdale, FL, she focuses on surgeries and endodontics while also serving as the Board of Trustees president for The Girl Choir of South Florida.

After relocating to Florida in 2012, Dr. Green joined several local study groups and discovered the National Dental PBRN, which aligned perfectly with her interest in research. “I really love the kind of insight that research can give you that may not be available otherwise,” she explains. Her involvement in studies, such as one on post-operative pain, has provided her with invaluable feedback from patients that has improved her clinical practice.

Dr. Green appreciates how the studies help identify unnecessary procedures and enhance patient care. “Having access to unbiased data from unaffiliated researchers helps practitioners make better choices,” she notes.

For those considering joining the National Dental PBRN, Dr. Green encourages participation: “There’s literally no downside. Whether you want to learn or actively participate, this is a great resource that costs nothing.” Her membership has significantly enhanced her research capabilities and critical thinking skills regarding study design and biases.

Without the National Dental PBRN, Dr. Green feels it would be challenging to engage in meaningful research outside an academic setting. “This is a great platform for connecting practicing dentists with academics to gather real-world data,” she states.

Dr. Green highly recommends membership to fellow researchers: “It’s so easy to gain new information just by exposure.” She emphasizes that even passive engagement can lead to new areas of interest.

Reflecting on how shared learning has impacted her practice, Dr. Green mentions a study on prescribing practices that prompted her to reevaluate her own habits: “Sometimes, just looking at your own practicing habits in a new light can be a good motivator for change.”

Dr. Valeria Gordan, the director of the South Atlantic Region, acclaims Dr. Dory Green’s contributions, stating: “Dr. Green’s dedication to dental research and her commitment to excellence are truly inspiring. Her active participation in pivotal studies through the National Dental PBRN has not only bridged the gap between research and clinical practice but also significantly enhanced the quality of care for her patients. We are fortunate to have such a passionate and insightful researcher advancing the field of dentistry within our network.”

We thank Dr. Dory Green for sharing her insights and contributions to the National Dental PBRN. If you are passionate about advancing oral health research and making meaningful contributions to the field, we invite you to join the network today.
