Explore how Dr. Jang’s involvement with the National Dental PBRN is enhancing dental education and patient care by bridging the gap between research and clinical practice.
The National Dental Practice-Based Research Network (National Dental PBRN), South Atlantic Region is proud to spotlight Seung Jin “James” Jang, a dedicated researcher enrolled in the combined Doctor of Dental Medicine (DMD) and Ph.D. program at the University of Florida. His journey exemplifies the positive impact of practice-based research on dental professionals and patient care.
The National Dental PBRN is committed to advancing oral health research education and fostering a supportive community. The network thrives thanks to the dedication of numerous dental researchers, students, and professionals who contribute to studies.
James Jang’s educational background includes a comprehensive 7-year program specializing in dentistry and biomedical science. Now in his final semester, he aims to join the faculty at the University of Florida or other dental institutions in Orthodontics while pursuing additional training at Ohio State University. His passion for science, particularly biochemistry, was ignited during his undergraduate studies, leading him to volunteer at hands-on clinics and conduct research at the National Institutes of Health (NIH).
Jang joined the National Dental PBRN after recognizing its role in bridging the gap between evidence-based research and clinical practice. “This organization is important in expediting translational research and facilitating innovative treatments,” he explains. “Through National Dental PBRN, oral healthcare providers can enhance patient outcomes by implementing evidence-based practices swiftly.”
Dr. Valeria Gordan, the director of the South Atlantic Region, highly commends Dr. Jang, remarking: “Dr. Jang’s dedication to dental research and commitment to excellence are exemplary. His enthusiasm for advancing oral health and his contributions to the National Dental PBRN have significantly improved involvement here at the University of Florida. We are fortunate to have such a skilled and passionate researcher in our network, and I am confident in his continued success in the field of dentistry and beyond.”
His involvement with various research organizations, including serving as President of the National Student Research Group at the American Association for Dental, Oral, and Craniofacial Research (AADOCR), has further honed his skills. “The National Dental PBRN has been instrumental in bridging laboratory findings with clinical applications,” Jang notes.
Reflecting on his experiences with National Dental PBRN studies, he emphasizes the importance of preventive care initiatives like oral HPV screenings. “These studies empower clinicians and students to prioritize preventive measures,” he states.
For aspiring clinician scientists, Jang advises active engagement with networks like National Dental PBRN. “Aligning research with patient-centered goals increases the likelihood of impactful outcomes,” he says.
Membership in the National Dental PBRN has significantly shaped Jang’s career trajectory by providing access to insights from practicing dentists and resources that enhance research capabilities. “The collaborative environment enriches research endeavors and facilitates meaningful contributions to patient care,” he adds.
Jang wholeheartedly recommends National Dental PBRN membership to fellow dentists, highlighting its abundant resources and opportunities for shared learning. If you’re passionate about advancing oral health research and education, we invite you to join the Network today.
